It appeared that Santos Escobar was officially a free agent, but a swift turn of events has brought him back to WWE. After his contract expired at midnight on Monday, many expected Escobar to explore his options elsewhere.

However, by Tuesday, the two sides reportedly came to terms on a new deal, securing his place in the company for the foreseeable future.

The Last-Minute Deal

The news was first reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, who indicated that WWE management made a significant effort to keep Escobar.

The report states that the company addressed his creative concerns while also making a "sizeably larger" financial offer than any they had previously presented.

The new agreement was reportedly finalized on Tuesday, though there is no word yet on when Escobar will make his return to WWE programming.

Future of Legado del Fantasma and AAA Plans

Prior to his brief departure and contract negotiations, Santos Escobar was the leader of the established Legado del Fantasma faction alongside Los Garza (Angel and Humberto).

The group has been active for over a year, and while Escobar disappeared from television during the dispute, Los Garza continued to use the faction's entrance theme. With a new contract signed, the group can now reunite at full strength.

More significantly, Escobar was reportedly penciled in for a major role in WWE's planned expansion and partnership with AAA. At one stage, there were plans for him to challenge and win the AAA Mega Championship, which is currently held by Dominik Mysterio.

It is unclear if those creative plans will be revived now that Escobar has re-signed, but his return certainly makes it a possibility.
