For years, every top star in WWE was on a mission to make the Undertaker break character and laugh. It would've been the ultimate badge of honor, forcing the toughest and most serious performer on the roster to shed his Deadman character for just a moment so the fans could see the real Mark Calaway.

"There was such a time period there, where I think that was the company's goal -- to see who could get me to break. It was nonstop," Undertaker told Chris Van Vliet in an interview.

Superstars like Kurt Angle almost succeeded on multiple occasions (and arguably succeeded once) while some of Taker's best real-life friends like the Godfather pushed him to the very edge of breaking.

"I had indentations inside of my lip from biting it," Taker once said about an in-ring rib the Godfather pulled on him (which you can watch below). "I'm cussing him like a dog inside of my head. I'm like, 'Man, why you gotta do me like that? Nobody talks to the Undertaker like that. Why've you got to bring up hoes to the Undertaker.' He was so proud of himself. It was close [to making me break]."

Watch these 10 times Undertaker almost broke character in the clips below.

    The Taker-roonie

For 30 straight minutes, some of WWE's biggest stars tried to get Undertaker to perform Booker T's signature taunt -- the Spineroonie.

Triple H, The Rock, Goldust, Booker T and even Vince McMahon himself did the spineroonie in the middle of the ring, with the intent to get Taker to break character and laugh.

Taker definitely cracked a few smiles, especially during Goldust's spineroonie, but he mystique of the Deadman never wavered.

Tommy Dreamer and the Tobacco Spit

In one of the grossest segments in WWE history, Undertaker forced Tommy Dreamer to drink a full cup of the Deadman's tobacco spit.

When Dreamer actually chugged the cup of bile, Taker had a look of legitimate shock on his face before gagging and nearly keeling over.

"That was pretty good! What is this, man? Thanks, bro!" a spit-mouthed Dreamer said, only to get beaten up by Taker anyway.

In the locker room's ploy to get Undertaker to laugh on camera, William Regal went nuclear at Survivor Series 2005.

After getting picked up for a tombstone piledriver, Regal spread his legs midair for an incredibly awkward spot. Countless fans watching at home must have been dying of laughter, but Taker didn't even grin.

    The Olympic Gold Medal-ass

In what would become a running gag in WWE, Kurt Angle would come incredibly close to making Taker break.

In this 2001 segment, Angle dawned a stars-and-stripes wrestling singlet and bandana along with some truly goofy sunglasses.

"What?!" Angle said to Taker. "You're an American Badass, I'm an Olympic Gold Medal-ass." Undertaker had to put his hand to his face to keep from losing his cool.

    Stone Cold Tests Taker

Stone Cold Steve Austin put an enormous effort into testing the Undertaker's patience in this 2001 segment.

During the Invasion angle, Vince McMahon put together an all-star team to fight the forces of WCW and ECW. As McMahon gathered Chris Jericho, Kane, Kurt Angle, Stone Cold and the Undertaker for a pep talk, Austin began repeating Vince's phrases for comedic effect.

Stone Cold kept directing his energy right to Taker, trying to get the locker room leader to laugh on live TV. You can see Taker was struggling, even telling Austin, "Why don't you shut up?"

    "You Like Hoes"

Only the Godfather could've gotten away with this. As Undertaker's best friend in the locker room, Godfather tried to break Taker back in 1998.

"I've known you for a long time," Godfather said to Undertaker on an episode of Sunday Night Heat. "And I know that you like hoes ... They say you're a Deadman. I don't think everything is dead, but if it is, these girls will..."

Undertaker cut Godfather off by punching the WWE pimp, but Taker later recalled, "I had indentations inside of my lip from biting it. I was thinking about run-over puppies, everything else I could possibly think of not to crack. I'm thinking, 'This son of a bitch.'"

    Kurt Angle's Wig

No WWE Superstar had better comedic instincts than Kurt Angle. Every bit of Angle's kayfabe ineptitude was hilarious, including this 2002 segment.

In this backstage piece with Angle, Mr. McMahon and Taker, the Deadman walks in on Angle wearing a wig and wrestling headgear. Just marvel at the moment Taker spots the rug on Angle's head.

    JBL Almost Succeeds

Taking his shot with trying to break Taker, JBL caught the Deadman off guard with a reference to a real-life mishap.

One of Taker's vacations had recently been ruined after his camper van broke down. JBL used this as ammunition, saying to Taker in front of an unknowing crowd, "You know what you need? You need a vacation. You need to get you an RV ... That right there will make you quit being so upset, you hear me? 'Cause right now your frown will turn upside down."

"It's the closest I ever got him to almost breaking character," JBL later recalled.

    Kane Interrupts Taker

Here's a rare mid-match rib on the Undertaker. In a tag-team match with Kane as his partner, Taker was bulldozing through Mr. Kennedy and MVP.

Without tagging in, Kane interrupted an upcoming big boot by Taker, jumping in and giving Kennedy a big boot of his own.

Kane shrugged and smiled while muttering something to Taker, only to exit the ring and leave his partner to pick up where he left off. No way this was a planned spot.

    The Kiss

If any moment caused Undertaker to actually break, this is the one.

During a WWE tour in Japan, Kurt Angle was cutting a promo on Taker after a match. "He put it hand out," Angle shared. "I shook his hand and said, 'How about a hug?' He pulls me in for a hug and I grabbed him and kissed him right on the lips. That's my favorite thing I did with the Undertaker. He wanted to kill me."

"You know Kurt," Taker said on the mic. "That's a long flight back to the States."
