Sabu’s Last Match Announces Fittingly Violent Stipulation
One of pro wrestling’s most fearless icons is officially going out with a bang. Sabu, the scar-covered daredevil who helped define the chaos of ECW, will step into the ring one last time later this month as part of Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9. And while the match itself was already enough of a draw on name value alone, a new stipulation has now been added that makes it feel like a true send-off for one of the most dangerous performers of all time.
Sabu vs. Joey Janela is now officially a no ropes barbed wire match — a callback to the kind of unforgiving environments Sabu made his name in. From ECW to FMW and everywhere in between, the man has thrown himself through tables, barbed wire, and flaming chairs in matches that most wrestlers wouldn't dare agree to. So it feels only right that the final bell tolls for him in an environment he helped popularize.
Sabu is 60 years old and dealing with a lifetime of injuries, but will surely go all out. Janela is a big Sabu fan so I'm sure he will create a ton of movement around the hardcore legend.
Spring Break 9 is stacking up to be another eclectic event, blending absurdity, nostalgia, and brutality in equal measure. Here's the full lineup announced so far:
