Report: Mariah May Could Be Leaving AEW for WWE This Summer
Former AEW Women's World Champion Mariah May is reportedly nearing the end of her contract with AEW, and heavy speculation suggests a jump to WWE could be in her near future.
On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez noted that May's deal is believed to be up this summer, and recent creative decisions inside AEW may indicate she’s on her way out. Most notably, the long-simmering feud between May and Toni Storm, one of the promotion’s most high-profile storylines, was blown off far quicker than expected.
Meltzer and Alvarez speculated that AEW owner Tony Khan may already be aware of May’s plans to leave and is now phasing her off television. She has been noticeably absent from recent episodes of Dynamite and Collision. According to Alvarez, May’s AEW contract was originally a two-year deal.
Update: A report published by PWInsider hours after this radio show was released noted that speaking to their sources inside AEW, May has what they called "significant time" left on her contract, pointing to at least November of this year or later.
May first made her name in Stardom, but found mainstream exposure in AEW where her storyline with Toni Storm became one of the longest-running and most critically praised angles in the company’s women’s division.
Adding more fuel to the rumor mill, May posted a cryptic message to Instagram just days ago. Alongside a photo of an airplane window, she wrote:
“You can’t make the wrong decision because every decision leads you to where you’re supposed to be.”
Sources close to May have also noted that she’s long considered WWE her dream destination, dating back to her childhood.
If the rumors are true, WWE may soon be adding one of wrestling’s most promising young stars to its roster. For now, all eyes are on how AEW handles her final appearances—if we see her again before summer at all.
