Former WWE Star Raymond Rougeau Re-Elected as Mayor in Quebec
Politics and professional wrestling continue to have a strong crossover in Quebec. Former WWE wrestler and commentator Raymond Rougeau has successfully been re-elected as the mayor of Rawdon, Quebec, this past Sunday.
The news was reported by both Post Wrestling and Pat Laprade of TVA Sports, who noted that the Quebec wrestling scene had two victorious candidates in the municipal elections.
The Election Victory
Rougeau, 70, won his second term as mayor of Rawdon, a municipality with a population of nearly 12,000 people. He secured a decisive victory over opponent David Gendron, capturing 59.1% of the total votes. In addition to his own win, Rougeau's entire team of councillors was also re-elected.
Rougeau is no stranger to politics. He began his political career in 2002, starting as a city councillor. He eventually rose to the rank of deputy mayor before winning his first mayoral election in November 2021.
The Rougeau Wrestling Legacy
Raymond Rougeau is a prominent member of Quebec's legendary Rougeau wrestling family. He is the son of Jacques Rougeau Sr. and the nephew of the popular Johnny Rougeau. He entered the family business himself in 1971 at just 16 years old.
Most WWE fans will remember him from his time in the WWF, where he joined with his brother Jacques (later known as The Mountie) in 1985. As the tag team The Fabulous Rougeaus, the pair were famously managed by Jimmy Hart.
After his in-ring career wound down, Rougeau became a fixture on WWF television as a French-language broadcaster, a role he held until 2002. He later returned to the commentary desk in 2017 before leaving the company again in 2021 when WWE's premium live events moved to Peacock in the U.S..
