Nic Nemeth on Getting “Worked” by Mötley Crüe’s Fake Retirement
"The Wanted Man" Nic Nemeth was all business when we caught up with him backstage at ACW's Mischief Night in Poughkeepsie, NY. Nemeth was moments away from a massive fatal four-way main event for the ACW Championship against Matt Cardona, Matt Riddle, and Richard Holiday, and he made his intentions clear.
"The title's on the line, which is big. We're the main event... It's up to us to deliver," Nemeth said. "I am paid a lot of money to do what I do better than anyone else in this business. And I look forward to stealing the show, stealing that championship, and leaving three very capable foes laying on their backs."
"They Lied To Us": Getting Worked by Mötley Crüe
As a site that covers both music and wrestling, we had to bring up the time our own Josh Bernstein spotted Nemeth at a Mötley Crüe "retirement" show years ago. Nemeth laughed and had some choice words for the band.
"They lied to us. Yes," Nemeth confirmed. "They've broken my hearts many times over. But the fact that I was fell like into the pro wrestling. 'I'm retiring, but I'm coming back in six months.' They did an 18-month tour... And their final show... they did the same damn show. They said, 'Later, we're out.' And that was it. And I we were like, we had tears in our eyes. It was beautiful... They're like, 'Hey, we signed this contract with a lawyer.' They're like, 'We blew it up. Screw it. We're back.'"
"So, that's on me for believing a pro wrestling retirement," he joked. "But my friends and I and the Crüe crew get to go check 'em out even more. So, we're happy to be able to see 'em."
The Ultimate Entrance Theme
We couldn't let "The Wanted Man" go without asking his pick for the greatest entrance theme of all time. His answer was immediate and iconic.
"I mean the glass breaking in and Austin coming out," Nemeth said. "I used to go home... I get home at 8:58 so at 8:59 I had the show on in case he was starting the show... and then glass break and I jumped out of my seat every time."
Making New History in a Legendary Building
The historic Poughkeepsie venue was electric, a fact Nemeth was quick to point out. He praised the ACW fanbase, which was even larger than his last appearance.
"The cool thing is there's so many people that go, 'I came from three hours away. I came from 5 hours away,'" he said. "That's what this is about. If we don't have fans, we don't have a show and I got to get a real job and I don't want to do that."
We discussed the incredible wrestling history in that very building, including Macho Man choosing Miss Elizabeth and the 1-2-3 Kid's shocking upset over Razor Ramon.
"Even someone like myself who grew up as a fan... you remember that one, two, three kid match. And when you see the venue, you remember it and you go, it triggers something in your brain and it makes it extra special," Nemeth reflected. He hopes his main event will create a similar, lasting memory for the fans. "Hopefully you have a kid walking... 'I remember when Nick Nemeth won the... championship... Me and my dad were there. We'll never forget it.' That's what it's about."
The Stunner posted more interviews from this weekend's ACW show, including TNA champion Mike Santana, Little Guido, Ben Bishop and more.
