Wild Story: Our Host’s Neighbor Wrote Matt Cardona’s “Radio” Theme!
We're backstage at ACW Mischief Night, and we've managed to grab a moment with "The Indy God," "The Headline" himself, Matt Cardona. Moments before his massive fatal four-way main event, Cardona was focused on one thing: revenge.
"A few months ago it was myself and and... Richard Holiday, and he screwed me. It was the Poughkeepsie screw job," Cardona told us. "Tonight, I thought it would just be a rematch. We got Nemeth, we got Matt Riddle... My main problem is with Richard Holiday. He steals everything from me. Even my dad, he's like, 'This guy's ripping you off.' So tonight, hopefully I walk out... the ACW champion."
The "Real" King of Bros
Cardona was quick to break down his opponents, noting his long history with Nic Nemeth and the fact that he and Matt Riddle have "never touched in the ring." But he did have one issue with the "Original Bro."
"He calls himself the original bro, the king of bros. That is not true," Cardona stated. "That's the only problem I have with that Riddle... If anyone's the king of the bros, it'd be me... I might need to uh sue him for that. Hit up... my lawyer and uh try to get that back."
"Indie Mania" in a Historic Venue?
Like many we spoke to, Cardona was full of praise for the Poughkeepsie venue and the promotion. "This building is very, very historic and what ACW has done... I was blown away by that show that I did," he said. "All their social media, they really hype up the shows. Has that 'big fight feel.' And tonight's no different."
He then dropped a major tease for ACW fans. "For the past few months, I've been I've been hinting doing 'Indie Mania.' And if I were to do it anywhere, it might be here with ACW."
Making that kind of history in a building where Macho Man chose Miss Elizabeth and the 1-2-3 Kid beat Razor Ramon would be a perfect fit for "The Indy God."
The Wildest Theme Song Story Ever
As a music and wrestling site, we always ask about favorite entrance themes. Cardona named his current indie theme by Downstait as his favorite, but our own Josh Bernstein had an unbelievable story about Cardona's second favorite: his iconic WWE theme, "Radio."
Josh mentioned that his own next-door neighbor, Watt White, was the one who wrote and performed that very song. Cardona was floored.
"That's so wild!" Cardona exclaimed. "The first time I heard that song was when I was doing my entrance on television and I'm like, 'This is cool.' And then when you listen to the lyrics, it... it's perfect for that Zack Ryder character. Absolutely perfect."
Cardona's Ultimate Survivor Series Team
With the holidays coming up, we asked Cardona to captain his own five-man Survivor Series team. His picks were a "who's who" of his friends and former partners.
"I'd have to say Nick Nemeth... I would say The Miz and John Morrison. That's my... that'd be on my team right there. And if we had a fifth member, maybe a little John Cena before he retires."
The Official Catering Review
Finally, since ACW management was staring us down, we had to ask for his review of the backstage catering.
"It's great, but look at my body. I can't eat it," Cardona laughed. "I love that there's catering and it's a great spread. We got hero. We got some Italian food... maybe after the match I'll splurge... That's what separates the complete Matt Cardona from everyone else on the Indies."
