One day after winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41, John Cena gave his first public interview, and it came with some definitive statements about his in-ring future.

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Cena made it crystal clear that his current WWE run will end after this year and that he has no intention of ever wrestling again after that.

“The business has been good to me. I never once take that shit for granted. There’s no amount of money, and there’s not a check, and this is just a shot across to any casino owner, any territory owner, to any promotion, you can’t write me a check to bring me back. In December, I am done because of the promise I made to them, whether I like them or I don’t, at least I go out keeping my word.”

The quote was received with a mix of surprise and respect, especially considering Cena’s legendary longevity. After more than two decades at the top, his insistence on walking away on his own terms, and sticking to a promise, feels very on brand.

He also used the opportunity to poke fun at himself, revealing something fans had been speculating about for months — a recent hair transplant.

“One of you sons of bitches should have pulled me to the side… Thank you for bullying me into getting a surgical hair transplant.”

Between the retirement declaration and the self-deprecating humor, it’s clear that Cena is still in full command of the spotlight, even as he prepares to exit it.
