Speculation is swirling online about whether Alberto Del Rio, the current AAA Mega Champion, has officially re-signed with WWE in the wake of WWE's recent acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA.

The rumors were kicked off by Mexican journalist Ernesto Ocampo, who tweeted that Del Rio was among several AAA wrestlers signed by WWE. He noted these AAA acts were signed by WWE:

  • Hijo de Dr. Wagner
  • Hijo del Vikingo
  • La Parka
  • La Hiedra
  • Lady Flammer
  • Lady Maravilla
  • Niño Hamburguesa

However, respected lucha journalist @luchablog (known as The Cubs Fan) quickly disputed that claim, stating that while WWE is assuming responsibility for all current AAA contracts, Del Rio has not personally signed a new WWE deal. According to @luchablog, WWE is still evaluating which AAA talent they will retain moving forward.

Dave Meltzer added another wrinkle to the story on Twitter, confirming that Del Rio is technically under WWE contract now as part of the AAA acquisition, but is not expected to appear on WWE television. Instead, WWE may opt to use him only within the AAA framework.

Del Rio, a former WWE Champion, comes with a complicated history. He has been arrested multiple times, including facing serious assault allegations that were later dropped. In 2023, he was reportedly in talks with WWE for a return, but the company chose not to move forward at the time. This current situation is different, as WWE's AAA purchase has put him under their umbrella by default.

Whether WWE will ultimately choose to feature Del Rio, even in the AAA space, remains to be seen.
