A blink‑and‑you‑miss‑it gag on last weekend’s Family Guy got wrestling fans talking on social media.

Family Guy season 23, episode 12, “One Foot in Front of the Mother,” delivered an unexpected gift for wrestling fans. 23, episode 12, “One Foot in Front of the Mother,” delivered an unexpected gift for wrestling fans. During the May 11 airing on FOX, Chris Griffin tries out for his high‑school wrestling team but shows up ready for pro wrestling, not amateur grappling. He dons a vintage‑style mask, wallops his opponent with a steel chair, and is greeted by the principal, who reveals he’s a masked wrestling fan, too.

Spot the Masks

Chris’s choice of ring gear wasn’t random. The mask he straps on is a near‑perfect recreation of Matt Classic, the old‑school persona that Colt Cabana trots out for throwback matches. If you know Cabana’s indie history, you instantly recognized the star‑covered design and vintage cut.

The episode’s coach ups the ante. When he lifts his whistle to reveal his own fandom, the mask he’s wearing looks almost identical to that of Excalibur, AEW’s lead play‑by‑play announcer. Here's the clip:

How the Cameo Happened

Cabana revealed on X (Twitter) that he pitched the gag to his brother Greg Colton, a long‑time Family Guy director:

“When your brother is the director of @FamilyGuyonFOX, sometimes your favorite masked wrestlers make an appearance.”

He added just how much red tape was involved:

“Hours and hours of paperwork and meetings to get this @FamilyGuyonFOX & @AEW collab official… So much hard work to make this official! God is good.”

Cabana even shared original concept art featuring both Matt Classic and Colt Cabana. Production settled on two masked wrestlers, so he pitched Evil Uno, Serpentico, and Excalibur. The Excalibur nod made the cut.

Where to Watch

The episode is streaming on Hulu for anyone who missed the broadcast. Blink and you’ll miss it, but for AEW die‑hards, seeing Matt Classic and Excalibur come to life in Quahog is pure crossover fun.
