If you're a hardcore wrestling fan and you want to know what Bryan Danielson nerds out on, the American Dragon has some awesome matches he suggests you watch.

Danielson is currently in Australia doing press for AEW Grand Slam Australia, which will take place in Sydney on Feb. 14, 2026. During an interview with The Amin Show, Danielson ended up going down a rabbit hole of classic wrestling.

"What I do for entertainment is I read and I watch wrestling," Danielson said. "On the plane over here, I was watching old wrestling. I was watching old wrestling to show younger talent, 'Hey, here's some things that people used to do in wrestling. Here's some intricacies that have been lost within the evolution of professional wrestling that you could use today that would work really well. That said, you watch Jerry Lawler versus Bill Dundee from 1985 and it's still captivating here in 2025.

Danielson continued, "Access is so cool, right? When I was a teenager I would have to buy tapes for $10 a piece and I didn't know what was good and what wasn't. Now you have access to so much stuff, there's no reason to watch something that's horrible, right? Unless you get kicks out of seeing something really bad. [laughs]"

"You could go through the litany of great professional wrestling matches that we have on tape from from the 1950s until today and you would you would never run out of great matches to watch. We have Lou Thesz vs. Buddy Rogers on YouTube... just free for everybody.

Finally, Danielson recommends watching a wrestler who was running the roads 100 years ago.

"If you're a hardcore wrestling fan, I highly suggest you go to Wrestling Playlist. They have matches from like 1908 and it might only be like 45 seconds, but it's super cool. There's a full Strangler Lewis match from the 1930s that's not like 45 seconds, it's like a real 10 minutes. You get to see, 'What was 1930s wrestling like? Oh, it was like this?!' It's super cool. His Twitter handle is @pwoloss."

"I am unapologetic about my love of... whatever you want to call it... the deathmatch style, hardcore. I love that stuff," Jon Moxley famously told Chris Van Vliet. "I understand most people are gonna think that's crap and they're not gonna want to watch that. Although I make no apologies that I like that stuff, I would never foist it upon everybody else. It's not like I walked into AEW and was like 'Look, all my matches are going to be crazy.' I never imagined we'd be able to do stuff like that."

Since its official formation in 2019, AEW has become wrestling's premiere destination for extreme acts of violence. With an entire locker room influenced by Atsushi Onita's FMW and Paul Heyman's ECW, both the men and women of AEW have created gruesome and iconic moments that rival any era of pro wrestling.

Tables, ladders, chairs, garbage cans and even kendo sticks have become commonplace in hardcore matches. But a bat full of a nails? A hypodermic needle? A champagne bucket filled with broken glass? These instruments of pain remain sickening to the core.
