Bryan Danielson Addresses Future: “My Neck Is Wrecked”
Bryan Danielson is currently making the media rounds in London to promote AEW Forbidden Door, set to take place this August. Naturally, one big question keeps coming up — will we see the American Dragon lace up the boots again?
Danielson has long maintained that he would step away from full-time wrestling once his run as AEW World Championended, which officially happened at WrestleDream last October when he lost the title to Jon Moxley. Since then, he has not wrestled or appeared on AEW programming, outside of promotional and media events, reiterating that his in-ring career is finished.
Speaking with Jamal Niaz this week, Bryan seemed to double down on the idea that he’s winding down, pointing to long-term health concerns and his family life.
"My neck is wrecked. So, it's not no chance, but it's risk versus reward at this point, right? So I want to be able to live comfortably with my wife and kids. One of the things our society has a real problem with is realizing when enough is enough, and I'm very satisfied with my career, and I think enough is enough."
While some fans are taking Bryan’s comments at face value, others are a little more skeptical. Wrestling fans with long memories will recall an interview Bryan gave in 2022 on The Masked Man Show where he openly admitted he enjoys lying to the media — a trick he says he learned from longtime friend Cody Rhodes.
"I have a great relationship with Cody. Cody and I have been friends for a long time, we'd ride together in WWE and that kind of stuff. I don't know if you guys know this, this is probably something that the boys know, but I'm a big-time liar. I love to lie. My love of lying, I wasn't a very good liar until I rode with Cody. Cody taught me how fun lying is. Just making up, saying something straight to somebody's face, the most absurd lie. Some of that...I really enjoy Cody."
With Forbidden Door still a few months away, whether Bryan's "enough is enough" comments are a farewell or just another swerve remains to be seen.
