AEW is officially going international again, and this time they're headed to the heart of lucha libre. The company announced that AEW Dynamite will make its Mexico debut on June 18, 2025, live from the legendary Arena México in Mexico City. This marks the first time any wrestling promotion besides CMLL has ever run a show at the iconic venue, considered by many to be one of the most important arenas in the world for pro wrestling.

The event, branded AEW Grand Slam: Mexico, continues to expand AEW’s international footprint and solidifies its deepening alliance with both CMLL and New Japan Pro Wrestling, as all three companies have been working closely together in recent years.

The crossover is largely believed to have been orchestrated by Rocky Romero, who serves as a crucial liaison between AEW, NJPW, and CMLL. Earlier this week, Romero teased the announcement during an interview with Case Lowe of Q101 in Chicago:

“I think that there's going to be a lot of cool stuff coming down the pipeline very, very, very soon. So I'll say that. I think Tony's right. I think it would be amazing to bring more AEW internationally. Obviously, they did a Grand Slam in Australia, that was a huge success. The last two shows in London, All In, have been incredible. I think that's where AEW is at now: trying to take it internationally. I'd also like to see AEW go over to Japan and do a proper Dynamite or Collision there or a pay-per-view there. It would be amazing... So, yeah, I think there's some very cool news that is going to be coming very soon.”

Arena México, nicknamed “The Cathedral of Lucha Libre,” has hosted generations of legendary moments and performers. The venue is the home base for CMLL, the world’s oldest active wrestling promotion, making this move by AEW a landmark moment for the global wrestling landscape.
